Spring Bites, Red Snapper, and Space Coast Hot Spots
Port Canaveral - Brevard, FL
Fishing out of Port Canaveral is heating up as spring rolls into summer. Warmer waters and clear skies are bringing a wide range of species closer to shore, giving anglers plenty of opportunities for action.
Offshore: The mahi-mahi bite has been strong in 120–250 feet of water, especially near weed lines and temperature breaks. Trolling ballyhoo or squid rigs has produced solid results. Kingfish are showing up around the reefs and ledges, and a few sailfish have also been reported by boats pushing farther out. Red snapper are holding steady on natural bottom and deeper structure—while the season is limited, catch-and-release fishing has been excellent. Amberjack and grouper are active on the wrecks, giving offshore anglers plenty of hard-pulling targets.
Nearshore & Inshore: Cobia are cruising along the beaches and around the buoys—look for rays and turtles to spot them on the surface. Tarpon are beginning to show up at the mouth of the port and around the jetties. Live mullet and crabs are getting the job done. In the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River, redfish and sea trout are biting early in the morning, especially on soft plastics and live shrimp.
Jetty & Pier Action: The jetties have been productive for sheepshead, black drum, and snook. Cut bait and live shrimp are your best bets. Spanish mackerel are still moving through, providing fast-paced fun for shore anglers tossing spoons and jigs.
Tip of the Week: Early mornings and tide changes have been key for inshore success. Offshore, keep an eye out for floating debris and birds—fast-moving mahi are close behind.
